The Real Temple of Augustus
It's been a very busy summer of guiding, so not so much time to update the blog. A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of guiding a group of students from the Harvard Divinity School in the north. We visited Beit Shean, Beit Alpha, Tzippori, Gamla, Banias...and the real Temple of Augustus! Archaeologists always knew that Herod had built a temple in honor of Augusts, and had assumed it was located in Banias. However, now a much more convincing temple has been discovered at nearby, off-the-beaten-track, Khirbet Omrit. So, if you want to visit the Temple of Augustus, make sure you go to Khirbet Omri and not Banias!
